First you might ask- what is microfiber?
Microfiber is the lightest type of textile synthetic,
thinner even than silk. Since its development in Japan in the 70’s, the fiber
has been used in a number of different ways in a number of different industries
from manufacturing to medicine to our specialty, fabrics. When woven into a
fabric, the fiber provides a whole host of benefits such as breathability,
impermeability, wrinkle resistance and most importantly, stain resistance.
Many of our furniture pieces are composed of microfiber
material because microfibers don’t easily absorb liquids. So don’t cry over spilt
milk! There are simple and easy ways to clean and protect you microfiber
furniture. First, it’s important to wipe away the damage as soon as possible. After
using a vacuum or a sponge, you can begin the cleaning process by treating the
stain with a simple water-based solution. You should use the solution
(detergent, upholstery shampoo, carpet cleaner) sparingly at first however and
add more as you see fit. It is important not to saturate the fabric.
If the fabric begins to feel stiffer than before, you can
solve this with a simple soft brush or tooth brush and rubbing gently in
circles for a few minutes. If the fabric is too soiled even for a simple clean,
then you can remove the furniture cover and launder them easily with a gentle
detergent. You can also treat watermarks with rubbing alcohol and other clear
alcohol types such as gin or vodka. Lingering odors can be removed with baking soda and
water applied directly for the spot and then vacuumed after.
The bottom line is that microfibers are easier to clean and
take care of than other kinds of furniture. If you’d like to see what furniture
pieces we have to offer that are composed of microfiber, visit our website
